Cantonese Cultural Learning Game

Published listing: Cantonese Language Learning Game

An exploratory Ren'Py prototype that investigates how Cantonese learning could be connected with Hong Kong districts, local stories and cultural contexts.

District map from the Cantonese cultural learning prototype

The final report records an exploratory Ren’Py prototype rather than a completed game. It investigates a district-based map inspired by the MTR, local characters and cultural contexts as a possible route into Cantonese learning.

The submitted prototype includes assets and mechanics in different stages of development. The report specifically notes that the planned district journey, character interviews, public-response mechanics and progress gallery were not delivered as one coherent experience.

What the prototype explores

  • A district-based map inspired by the MTR system
  • Local characters and dialogue-led cultural encounters
  • Hong Kong places, food, transport, heritage and everyday life as learning contexts
  • Public-response and progress-gallery mechanics

Completion record

The report explicitly describes the final prototype as incomplete and fragmented. This page presents the scope documented in the final report without presenting the planned mechanics as a finished game.
